Will the treatment hurt?
Generally, if you are in a lot of pain coming in, the treatment will be somewhat uncomfortable. Dr. Mike always works within your pain threshold and encourages you to let him know how you are doing during the treatment. While people are sometimes concerned about the adjustment hurting, it’s the deep tissue muscle work that can be the most uncomfortable, especially if we are working directly on your area of complaint. The adjustment portion of the visit is typically painless.
I’m scared of having my neck adjusted. Do we have to do that to get me better?
No, we do not. Please do not let this concern stop you from seeking treatment. Dr. Mike will not perform an adjustment or other type of treatment without getting your permission. If you do not feel comfortable having your neck adjusted you need not worry.
Do chiropractor treat only neck and back pain?
It depends on the practitioner. Dr. Mike treats a multitude of other musculoskeletal conditions. Our largest patient population is athletic individuals including runners, cyclist, martial artists, golfers, tennis players and triathletes. They come in with all sorts of issues including shoulder pain, IT band tightness, SI joint pain, shin splints, tennis and golfer’s elbow and more. My PCP gave me a prescription for physical therapy (PT) What is the difference between what you do and what physical therapists do? Can I fill the prescription with you?
You can fill your PT prescription at our office. In our style of practice we see many of the same conditions as PT. Our treatment protocols are primarily passive for the client. We work on you while you lay on the treatment table. We encourage you to relax your muscles as we do soft tissue work, professional stretching and joint mobilization. The main difference is that PT is typically more active for the patient. They will show you exercises and stretches and then watch you perform them. We will typically push you a little harder to get you better, faster.
What is the sound you hear when you get a traditional chiropractic adjustment?
The sound you hear during the alignment portion of the visit is gas escaping the joint. It’s confirmation that the joint has moved. It’s the same sound you hear when someone pops their knuckles.
How long will it take to get me out of pain and feeling better?
As a general rule the longer you have had the problem the longer it will take to fix. Dr. Mike always encourages his clients to come in as soon as possible once a problem is on their radar. Keep in mind that often the underlying issue was there long before one notices the pain. We expect to see results within 2 – 3 visits, then we know we’re on the right track. Our goal is to get you better as soon as possible so you can get back to what you enjoy doing.
How long does the treatment take?
Dr. Mike typically spends 30 – 45 minutes with his clients. That is much longer than most chiropractors and one of the reasons that he is able to get you better, faster. Each visit consists of soft tissue mobilization, stretching and then a specific adjustment if necessary.
Do you take insurance?
We are in network with Aetna, Blue Cross Blue Shield, United Healthcare, Medicare and other carriers as well. Feel free to call the office and have our staff verify your benefits before your first visit.
Can I come see you if I’ve been in a car wreck?
Yes, we can use the medical coverage of your auto insurance and there is usually no out of pocket cost for you. Dr. Mike will help get you back to “pre-accident” condition as soon as possible.
